About Karabo Monyemangene
Karabo Monyemangene ( b. 2003 , Polokwane Limpopo) is a young multi-disciplinary artist rooted in the exploration of lineage, memory, and identity within a post-colonial Southern African context.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Witwatersrand the Johannesburg-based artist is drawn to storytelling. Deeply rooted in the exploration of lineage, memory, and identity within a post-colonial Southern African context. She investigates moments already experienced and the intangible feeling or memories that moment entails often influence time. The feelings evoked by this are often by material or the sound of the work. Using herself or her family as an anchor points to her subject matter her work will always find a way home. Through the lens of the camera photography is centred, which she enhances through photomontage, techniques like screen-printing and sonic journeys. A commitment to exploring emotional and cultural landscapes influenced by time.
